The Evatt Trophy Competition, named after Dr H.V. Evatt, is Australia's largest and most prestigious high school school debating competition. It is a realistic competitive simulation of United Nations Security Council debate.
Delegates compete in teams of two, representing a country on the UN Security Council. They are given resolutions that they must debate, negotiate, amend and vote on. During the competition delegates will have opportunities to speak for or against a resolution or amendment, talk to other nations in the negotiating room, pass notes to other nations, ask points of information, and propose amendments to the resolution.
Delegates are representing the views and interests of their assigned country. This is a lively and interactive way to debate, learn about the UN, and engage with current world issues from many different perspectives.
